Sounds cool right? I originally read this at mikesenese, and although the results seamed promising I couldn’t listen to any sample of the vinyl replica.
So I went to make the experience myself, I used a 10-inch 78 rpm record that holds about three minutes of sound per side. Theses records were, in my opinion, the ones that deserved a replica because no one produces them today. There’s another reason actually, they would even be easier to copy since they have less information than 45 and 33 rpm ones.
You can check the whole process in this photo set.
If you want to make one, you can buy the moulding and casting materials from here.
Price for OOMOO 30 Trial Size is: 23,37 € + 19% VAT, for Task 4 Trial Size is: 22,51 € + MwSt.
Here’s the original 78” record playback:
and the resulting replica:
I’m pretty impressed with the result, here are the waveforms of both:
… and with some noise filtering I could get something even better out of it:
It’s interesting to hear that people prefer this to the original … go figure!
